Faster Hiring, Better Close Rates: The Value of Same-Day Interviews

Rachael Granby

Karat’s same-day interviews give candidates the power to book and complete their interviews the moment they receive an invite. No waiting. No back-and-forth with recruiters. No working around someone else’s calendar.
It’s almost unheard of for candidates to complete their interview the same day they apply or even just a few hours after being invited. But Karat makes it happen through our global network of over 1,000 Interview Engineers. We maintain enough coverage and readiness to support interviews 24/7, with consistent quality.
It’s a big operational lift. But it’s one that pays off for both companies and candidates.
A Win-Win for Companies and Candidates
In competitive hiring markets, timing matters. When a great candidate is fielding multiple offers, every day counts. Same-day interviews let you catch up and even pull ahead. You can interview a candidate the same day they get an offer somewhere else, or beat the competition to the punch by making your offer before others have even gotten started.
For candidates, the benefits are just as clear. Same-day interviews reflect Karat’s broader commitment to flexibility and access. That’s why we offer 24/7 availability, allowing candidates to also interview during nights and weekends.
We can see how impactful same-day interviews are by looking at candidate behavior and feedback. When given the flexibility, candidates take advantage of it. Through the end of last year, 19% of candidates scheduled same-day interviews, and 33% scheduled between 1-4 days out.
When providing feedback on their interview experience, candidates appreciate how quickly they can schedule their interview and the control they have over when and how they show up.
How Same-Day Interviews Improve Acceptance Rates
It’s not just about convenience. Same-day interviews also drive measurable hiring improvements.
When we look at the data, we see a clear correlation: the sooner a candidate interviews, the higher their acceptance rate. Same-day interviews give strong candidates a way to quickly show interest and demonstrate their skills. In fact, candidates who opt for same-day interviews are meaningfully more likely to land the role than those who wait 10+ days.
Same-day interviews yield an average of 13 hires per 100 candidates — a dramatic increase from the 5.5 hires per 100 candidates that result from interviews scheduled more than two weeks after invitations. According to last year’s CTO hiring trends survey, the industry average for non-Karat interviews was over 10 days.
While this increase in acceptance rate is useful for any technical role, it’s essential for highly sought-after roles like AI engineers. Although tech giants can afford to offer enormous compensation packages to win talent, smaller companies can’t. However, they can use same-day interviews to gain an advantage over larger companies that typically have slower-moving interview processes.
One fintech company, AvidXchange, was able to dramatically accelerate their hiring process and close more top-performing candidates thanks to same-day interviewing. With 24% of their candidates taking advantage of same-day interviews (and 37% electing for off-hours interviews), they were able to get their average time to interview down to just 3.3 days. The result was a 30% increase in their close rates and a 50% improvement in the quality of their hires.
What It Takes to Offer Same-Day Interviews
Delivering same-day interviews at scale requires two things: capacity and training.
Good capacity means no matter how many candidates want to schedule their interview for the same Wednesday morning, you’re ready to conduct all those interviews simultaneously. Karat solves this by maintaining deep bench strength and high availability across time zones.
When it comes to training, you need to constantly be keeping your pool of interviewers up to date on all of the nuances of your interview content. In our rapidly evolving tech scene, your content should be evolving all the time too, so interviewer training needs to be an ongoing commitment.
The combination of high capacity and continuous training also means more reliability and less rescheduling for candidates. For instance, if a candidate schedules an interview for six hours from now, and the interviewer suddenly becomes unavailable just minutes before the interview happens, you’ll have a roster of ready and able backup interviewers who can step in and ensure the candidate is evaluated fairly and on time.
Same-day interviews are one of the most effective, candidate-friendly tools a company can use to improve speed, experience, and hiring outcomes. But delivering them consistently requires serious infrastructure.
That’s where Karat comes in. As a leader in technical hiring, Karat focuses on interviews to help companies assess candidates in the most predictive, fair, and enjoyable way. By providing same-day, 24/7 interviews, Karat enables companies to make interviewing their highest priority. Even when there’s a surge in interviews, Karat has enough vetted and qualified Interview Engineers who can administer your interviews professionally and fairly.
